Argo includes all the essentials you’d expect from today’s digital tabletop tools. Below, we highlight the features we believe make Argo unique across any game system, plus a closer look at Forbidden Lands as our proof of concept.

Core gameplay flow

Context-aware rules

Argo shows the right rules right when they matter. It shows you key modifiers and guides you through the steps and consequences where you act, so you keep the flow.

In Forbidden Lands, click your party’s hex and Argo reacts. Choose Sleep and Argo checks if Make Camp happened, then prompts the correct roll and conditions (Bare Ground → Survival). Pick Forage and Argo shows the terrain modifier instantly (e.g., -1 in Plains).

Character editor

Create, edit, and manage characters fast. Gear, feats, spells, and progression stay in one place, ready for your next session. You can customise your hero’s look too, shape face and build, then style gear with colours and details.

In Forbidden Lands, build characters with kin, profession, attributes, skills, talents, and gear. As you choose options, Argo shows the relevant rules, what a kin means, which talents a profession unlocks, and how talents connect in a clear tree. Argo also tracks conditions and resources as your party survives the wilds.

Distances and paths

Measure movement and plan routes instantly, with clear paths that respect the map, terrain, and obstacles.

In Forbidden Lands, plot journeys on the hex map and see how far your party can really travel. Argo shows a live movement area that updates with terrain cost and blocked hexes, and it factors in needs like boats or rafts. Give the party horses and the range updates instantly.

Exploration and atmosphere

Fog of war

Reveal the world as players discover it, with dynamic visibility that keeps secrets hidden until they’re earned.

In Forbidden Lands, explore the Ravenlands one hex at a time. Uncover landmarks, settlements, and threats while preserving the tension of discovery and the danger of the unknown.

Seasons and time

Set the mood with light, weather, and seasons. Argo shows the world state at a glance and applies the right visibility modifiers to your rolls automatically.

In Forbidden Lands, Argo tracks quarter of the day, darkness, and seasons. The scene updates in real time, so journey activities’ rolls get the right bonus or penalty.

Worldbuilding and GM tools

Terrain editor

Shape the map fast with intuitive tools. Paint terrain, edit rivers, place landmarks, and Argo updates movement and travel costs automatically.

In Forbidden Lands, customise the Ravenlands in minutes. Swap hexes, add features, adjust rivers, then jump back into play. Argo recalculates travel distance and reachable zones instantly.

Procedural generation

Generate wilderness, dungeons, towns, and villages in seconds. Unreal PCG builds the layout, then you tailor it for your campaign.

In Forbidden Lands, generate encounters from the current hex using biome and topography. You can also generate full Adventure Sites, villages, dungeons, and castles, ready to customise.

Tech & Partners

The Tech behind the features

Unreal Engine

We chose Unreal Engine 5 because it gives Argo a foundation that scales with imagination. Its real-time rendering, advanced lighting (Lumen), and massive-world support (Nanite, World Partition) mean we can build immersive 3D maps and environments without compromise while keep pushing visual quality as the platform grows.

WebRTC

Powered by WebRTC, Argo gives every table real-time voice and video built for tabletop RPGs. Game Masters can orchestrate a scene with the players in it, while players who aren't in the scene break off to chat, scheme, or roleplay among themselves. No generic conference call — this is communication designed around how RPGs are played, so your group feels like it's gathered around the table, wherever everyone really is.

MongoDB

Every campaign you build in Argo — your characters, worlds, maps, lore, and the history of every session — lives in a flexible, reliable database powered by MongoDB. Because RPG data is rich and ever-changing, we needed a system that grows with your story rather than forcing it into rigid templates. MongoDB lets Argo store deeply detailed, evolving worlds and recall them instantly, so nothing about your adventure is ever lost.

Partners & Collaborators

Errant Worlds

We partnered with Errant Photon in a close co-development effort to build Argo's hexagonal map system. Their technology made it remarkably easy to author rich, varied landscapes, and their team implemented our spline-based river deformation, letting rivers carve naturally through the terrain. Throughout the collaboration they were responsive, attentive, and a genuine pleasure to work with. We look forward to building more together.
